La Condition Humaine Poems

Inspired by Andre Malraux’s novel of the same title, this short poem explores the thoughts of some that life is futile and that everything we do is meaningless in the grand scheme of things. We see ourselves on a pointless journey between birth and death, where everything in between is not even worth trying.  I am glad I don’t share this view.

La condition humaine

It’s a given, it’s a fact,

Nature’s law, the truth,

That this world is absurd,

A decaying tooth.

What is the meaning of life?

What is the meaning of death?

La condition humaine.

Searching for gratification,

Curiosity, cold isolation,

Confusion, disorientation,

Heartless abomination.

Meaningless life

Meaningless death

La condition humaine.
